The Korea Forest Research Institute (KFRI) held the 4th International Timber Construction Symposium (ITCS 2015) on August 26, 2015 at Konjiam in Gyeonggi Province. The ITCS is the bi-annual event organized by the KFRI from 2009 for the purposes of introducing latest developments in technology and information for promotion and construction of large scale wood structures in Korea.

‘Wood Urbanism’ and ‘Structural Safety of Large-Scale Wood Buildings’ were this year’s main themes of the symposium and for the presentations on second theme, two Canadian researchers were invited; Conroy Lum, Research Leader, Structural Performance, and Dr. Mohammad Mohammad, Senior Research Advisor, CFS, NRCan.

The topics of their presentations were ‘Technical Guide for the design and Construction of the Tall Wood Buildings in Canada’ and ‘Verification Process of Structural Safety and Construction Details of a Long-Span Timber Structure’, respectively.

Other speakers invited from overseas include architects and engineers from Austria and Japan.

KFRI is hosting the 2018 World Conference on Timber Engineering (WCTE 2018) in Seoul, Korea.
