50 Architects enroll in 2 day Wood Design Workshop
Korea Wood Construction Association (KWCA), the biggest and oldest wood frame construction and wood material related association in Korea has successfully conducted 2-day Wood Frame Structural Design Workshop for 49 builders and architects of its members.
Conducted from July 4th to July 5th, 2015, originally planned to be held in May but postponed due to the outbreak of MERS (Middle East Respiratory Syndrome), this was the first intensive workshop dedicated for one subject and organized, delivered and attended by and for KWCA members.
Gak Kyung Kim, PE Structural Engineer, also a member of KWCA responsible for structural/framing inspection of 5 Star Applications, prepared and delivered of 12 hours of in-class lectures which covered various topics such as Korea Building Code Structural, IBC and IRC provisions, structural concept of wood frame construction, load paths, framing members, loads and forces, materials, and process of structure design, and structural engineering of a sample house from top to bottom.
Proving “train of trainers” objective of Canada Wood technical transfer program, Mr. Kim 50 gained his knowledge on wood frame structure through one of the Canada Wood sponsored association-based trainings and became a designated lecturer for KWCA members. KWCA is planning to hold more intensive technical workshops like this for its members to improve construction quality and the next one is planned in October on the topic centered on WF building envelope.
