The Honorable Dae Ho Choi, Mayor of Anyang City in Gyeonggi Province, has presented plaques of appreciation to Tai Jeong, Country Director, Canada Wood Korea and Jin Ho Park, Professor, Department of Architecture, Inha University to celebrate the successful completion of the GIFTs : 5 project and to recognize the contributions the project has made for the city in securing funds for Community Renewal* projects from the national government.
Community Renewal Projects aim at improving residential homes and installation of small-scale amenities in local communities to complement large scale New Deal Urban Regeneration projects.
The GIFTs : 5 Project in 2018, conducted as University-Based Training for architecture students, was planned and built with collaboration of industry (Canada Wood), academia (Inha University) and local government (Anyang City) with consultations and inputs from residents of Soeksu-dong, the neighborhood where the pavilion is located.
The collaboration has not only provided a new pavilion for residents of Seoksu-dong replacing an old one, but it has also demonstrated Anyang city’s ability to work with residents, industry and academia. The GIFTs project site was visited by reviewers of New Deal Urban Renewal projects fund allocation as it coincided with field inspection schedule. The successful completion of the GIFTs : 5 Project was instrumental for Anyang city in being selected as one of 68 districts and securing more that 20 million dollars for Urban Regeneration projects.
