BEC/JTC Meetings Held in Tokyo

nrcanFrom 14th to 15th of September, the 26th Canada-US-Japan trilateral Building Experts Committee (BEC) and JAS Technical Committee (JTC) meetings were held in Tokyo.  Canadian secretariat was from NRCan, US from USDA, Japan from Building Guidance Division of MLIT1) for BEC and from Labelling and Standards Division of MAFF2) for JTC.  These meetings have been held annually since 1990 to discuss technical issues in the building codes and JAS accreditation/standard system.  At the BEC meeting, Japan updated Canada and US with the 2×4 building code revision, focusing on dimension lumber design stresses addition for Japanese species.  At the closing remarks, Canada offered future technical assistance for deriving MOEs for dimension lumber.  At the JTC meeting, Japan mentioned that species grouping are still being considered as part of the major requested items for the Glulam standard.  As this comment on species grouping was reflecting the Canadian request, Canada thanked for this in the closing remarks.
