Canada Wood’s Joint Work with the Japan Wood Truss Council
On June 22nd COFI / Canada Wood Japan participated in the 15th annual Japan Wood Truss Council (JWTC) AGM held at the Canadian Embassy. The COFI SPF Group’s Kevin Bews leads joint promotional initiatives with the JWTC to expand SPF dimension lumber use in truss applications. The JWTC members include 19 truss and panel plants from across Japan. The COFI SPF Group partners with the JWTC on a number of promotional activities including joint seminars and advertising as well as web based promotions. In fiscal 2014 COFI worked with the JWTC to revamp web based promotions and as a result internet page hits at the JWTC.ORG site jumped 37% to 26,207 in fiscal 2015.
At the AGM it was reported that recent trends point towards increased truss use in post and beam as well as non-residential applications. Indeed non-residential truss use in buildings such as agriculture, warehouses, factories and commercial buildings now account for an average of over 40% of truss production from member companies. The AGM was followed by a reception wherein Canada Wood’s Shawn Lawlor offered greetings and encouraged association partners to keep up the good work in expanding truss applications into new areas of non-residential demand.
