geaAs previously reported, COFI has been conducting 2-hour fire testing for PFC structural assemblies as part of the Canada Wood FY2015 market access projects.  We are pleased to advise that in December MLIT issued 3 certificates approving 2-hour rate fire resistive performance of Midply and regular 2×4 partition wall assemblies and a PFC floor assembly.  The certificates were jointly given both to COFI and the Japan 2×4 Home Builders Association.  The approved Midply and regular partition walls are cladded with three layers of 21-mm gypsum boards.  The specification of the approved floor assembly also consists of three layers of 21-mm gypsum board, covering the 2×10 dimension lumber floor joist framing.  The 2-hour rating is required for the wooden buildings with 5 storeys or more, whereas 4 storeys or less only require 1-hour fire rating.  The approvals we obtained this time should pave the way for the development of midrise PFC buildings market with 5 storeys or higher.  Our next step is to prepare for the 2-hour exterior wall fire tests.
