Earthquake in Pohang, “If they were wooden buildings, the damage would not have been so bad”

The Presidential Commission on Architecture Policy presented an opinion that wood frames should be used for building houses to ensure the safety of people from disasters including earthquakes.

At the Wood Industry Awards Ceremony held at the Incheon Songdo Convensia on December 7, 2017, Hae-seong Je, Chief Commissioner of the Presidential Commission on Architecture Policy started his speech by saying “I would like to show my support to the Pohang citizens and victims suffering from the earthquake” and also added, “I hope we can enhance disaster and safety management by building more wooden buildings in the future”.

In addition, he said, “The Commission on Architecture Policy will take the lead in establishing policies related to buildings and spatial utilization, which is the basis needed better environments with safety and comfort for people to live in” and also emphasized, “We will make efforts to promote the wood industry and build many wooden buildings throughout Korea.”
