Eric Wong Appointed as Managing Director, Canada Wood China
Eric has extensive senior marketing experience with several western manufacturers operating in mainland China. He conceived and implemented effective strategies enabling these firms to grow their sales and profitability in the PRC.
Wong, a native of Hong Kong, received his bachelor’s degree in engineering from the University of Nottingham, a Master’s degree in Business Economics from the Chinese University of Hong Kong and studied industrial marketing at INSEAD. His career commenced with China Light and Power Co., then ABB (China) LTD. He transitioned to building materials after joining Australian CSR Building Materials LTD, a manufacturer of fire retardant thermal insulation. After acquisition by Danish Rockwool International, Eric was appointed to lead marketing efforts in China, living in several locations there.
His role in Shanghai will be to lead a cross-functional team in the development of new building and remanufacturing segments expanding the sales of Canadian wood products. Prior experience with Chinese regulators and the construction industry will be germane to his new position. Canada Wood has 35 staff working in Shanghai and Beijing and has forged close links with key authorities and industry and conducts campaigns advancing greater wood usage.
CWG owes its success to a tripartite arrangement between the Canadian forest industry, Natural Resources Canada and British Columbia’s Forestry Investment Innovation agency.
Search and selection for the new managing director was conducted by a joint CWG/industry committee.
