Mr. Dan Wilkinson, Executive Director, Forest Industry Development Branch and his colleague Mr. Gordon Giles, Section Manager, Forest Industry Sustainability Section – representing the Government of Alberta visited Japan the week of May 20th. While in country, these two in individuals had a full schedule of meetings with representatives of COFI and the Canada Wood office – receiving an overview and market update of Japan’s current status for wood product and building material usage and recent trends in this country. This combined with lumber and housing customer visits, meetings with Japanese industry association representatives and a few government officials, on top of that a visit to the Tohoku region to tour the two recently opened demonstration projects on the outskirts of Sendai made the week seem to fly by.
