Jeju Island is the largest island off the coast of the Korean Peninsula. It has a moderate climate; even in winter, the temperature rarely falls below 0 °C. Despite its mild temperature, it experiences a humid subtropical climate with high winds and heavy rainfall all year long. The harsh weather makes it quite an adventure for housing developers in Jeju that wish to create housing developments there. One such developer that I recently met, Mr. Jeong, CEO of Daeil Development switched from concrete to wood four years ago. Initially he was reluctant to make the switch because of misconceptions about durability and safety. However, since making the switch, Mr. Jeong has witnessed first hand the many benefits of using wood, namely speed of construction and healthy living. Locals are starting to prefer wood housing as well and their misconceptions are also changing.
