COFI hosted a group of 23 building industry professionals from Japan on a 7 day tour mission from October 2 – 8. This year’s mission focussed on North America’s rapidly developing and lucrative wood “Lodging and Multi-Family” market segment. As such, participants spent most of their time in Canada touring multi-rise 5&6-storey apartment and condominium projects, as well as hotels, and resort lodges in and around Metro Vancouver and Whistler, learning about designed, construction and inspections in Canada by architects, engineers, building contractors and officials. Metro Vancouver based building industry experts did a magnificent job providing firsthand knowledge of Canada’s multi-family and mid-rise commercial market segment and how it is a growing and profitable business opportunity for construction companies and architects alike. As we have seen in other past tours that we have conducted, mission participants are looking to take what they have seen and learnt in Canada and implement similar design and construction of wood structure in Japan following the wood construction trends they were exposed to in Canada. Again, I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone involved who helped make this year’s mission to Canada from Japan a great success! Thank you!!
