Mitsui Home Hokkaido’s New Sapporo Office Building – Update
On a recent trip Hokkaido last month, Shawn Lawlor and myself were able to visit Mitsui Home Hokkaido’s new office building in Sapporo, so I thought it would be wise to send in an update on the project. The last time I visited earlier this year, there was still a blanket of snow on the ground and the project was still under construction. The wooden structure for the building had been completed, however behind all that scaffolding and protective netting, workers were labouring at feverish pace installing gypsum board and finish carpenters were working on completing the interior of the building. For those of you who did read my previous blog article on February 2018, it is a 3-storey 2×4 structure that also utilized floor and roof trusses (9m span) to design and construct the building with a total floor area of 1,373m². The building basically has to functions – serving as a base for approximately 50 sales and support staff that work at the branch, as well as containing a large show room on the first floor. The show room proudly displays several interior model rooms that feature a wide range of designs, colours, and building materials, as well as meeting rooms that customers with the support of sales staff can use to finalize the details of their dream homes. If you get a chance please visit, as it is wonderful example of 2×4 non-residential and commercial building being constructed in the heart of cities, where you don’t traditionally see these types of buildings going up.
