A positive trend for wood construction in Japan being more and more companies are expanding their business models beyond designing and building residential homes. “We Love 2×4” has been a long-time moto for years for Mitsui Home we can clearly see the forward thinking and leadership the company is showing putting these words to action. A wonderful example being Mitsui Home Hokkaido’s new Sapporo office building that is currently under constructing and entirely being built out of wood near Sapporo station, where you don’t traditionally see these types of buildings going up. The office will serve as the base for the 50 sales and support staff working at the company. It is a 3-storey 2×4 structure that also utilized floor and roof trusses (9m span) to design and construct the building with a total floor area of 1,373m². This illustration sends a clear and positive message not only to their customers and employees alike, on the intrinsic benefits for platform frame construction not only for dwellings, but non-residential and commercial buildings as well. One of the signs prominently displayed at the site proudly states “Constructing Wooden Buildings for Mankind and Mother Earth”, now that tells you a lot what is going on behind the scaffolding and protective netting on this construction site.
