PFC Exterior Wall Passes 2-Hour Fire Test (Exterior Burning)
This fiscal year’s Canada Wood technical projects include seeking for a 2-hour fire resistive ministerial approval for exterior walls. This project is being done collaboratively between COFI and Japan 2×4 Home Builders Association. On April 4th and 6th, outdoor side of the exterior wall specimens were burnt at a furnace equipped at Japan Testing Centre for Construction Materials – one of the MLIT-designated performance evaluation bodies in Soka City, Saitama Prefecture (photo above). The cross sectional of the wall consists of 3 layers of 21mm-thick gypsum boards (photo below). 2 replicates of the burning tests successfully satisfied the requirements. As this was the outside burning, other tests of indoor side burning is scheduled on May 10th and 12th.
