Revision of the Korean Standards KS F 1611-1 and KS F 9002 Successfully Completed

The revision of the two Korean Standards, the KS F 1611-1 ‘Fire resistance performance for elements of building construction – Part 1: Wall, floor and roof assemblies of light-frame wood structures’ (previously titled as ‘Wall and floor/ceiling, roof/ceiling assemblies of light-frame wood structures’ in 2011 version and before) and the KS F 9002 ‘Standard practice for constructing structural parts of light-frame wood buildings’ has been completed.

The revised standards have been officially promulgated in the Gwanbo (the Korean Government’s official gazette) published in July 2015 as the Notice of Korean Agency for Technology and Standards (KATS). The revision procedure suffered long delay due to the outbreak of the MERS (Middle East Respiratory Syndrome) which forced scheduled deliberate and review meetings to be canceled.

The importance of revised KS F 1611-1 is the inclusion of roof assemblies for the first time in the KS F 1611-1. Two roof assemblies, one stick framed with SPF roof rafters and ceiling joists and the other with roof trusses, have been added to the standard. And, in addition, two more floor assemblies using floor trusses and I-joists have also been added. The KS F 9002 has also been updated to include the above mentioned building products, assemblies and standard construction practices.
