Canada Wood Korea conducted the technical seminar on October 5, 2015 to inform major stakeholders of wood treatment in Korea on 1) penetration characteristics of ACQ’s ingredients to refractory species, 2) latest development in incising technologies and 3) the 5th year result of field testing of Canadian White Spruce and Hemlock species in Korea treated to CSA O80 Standards.

3 Korean and Canadian speakers, Professor Jong Shin Lee of Chungnam National University, Senior Research Scientist Dr. Jieying Wang of FPInnovations, and Professor Jong Bun Ra of Gyeongnam National University of Science and Technology (GNTECH), presented the 3 topics respectively to more than 50 industry leaders from Korea Wood Preservation Association, Korea Wood Association, and Korea Wood Construction Association, researchers and regulators from Korea Forest Research Institute and Korea Forestry Promotion Institute, professors from Seoul National University and Kookmin University, agents of Canadian companies and reporters from various media outlets.

Among the topics, the 5th year performance of the two Canadian wood species, White Spruce and Hemlock, treated to CSA O80 Standards at the testing site in Southern Korea, draw the strongest attention from seminar participants because of its implications for revising or relaxing the Korean standard for wood treatment as the testing results show that there are valid scientific data that support such revision.
