Canada Wood Korea (CWK) organized a technical seminar on September 14th at BEXCO, Busan during the 2018 Busan Kyunghyang Housing Fair. Busan is the second capital city in Korea, where people tend to build houses mostly using concrete. However, we find that a large number of people are getting more interested in 2×4 housing here in Busan every year. CWK has participated in the fair since 2008 to promote 2×4 housing. This year CWK invited two renowned architects as seminar speakers. A registered architect, Mr. Song of Michoo Architecture, with over 30 years of experience in designing 2×4 homes in Korea and Mr. Kang of Nova Architecture talked about ‘Present and the future of wood construction’ and ‘Wood infill wall system applied to multi-family housing’ respectively. More than one hundred local professionals and university students attended the seminar.

In the evening, CWK organized a B-to-B seminar in collaboration with the Korea Institute of Registered Architect of Busan (KIRA-Busan) for local architects and university professors to promote wood infill wall application into concrete and steel framed structure. One attendant said “I was invited to the seminar almost every year. I used to think wood construction wouldn’t work well in a metropolitan like Busan. But I have changed my mind after I have learned about the wood infill wall system through today’s presentations.”
