Wood Wall Bracing Design Introduced to Korean Engineers, Architects and Builders
Canada Wood Korea organized an international workshop on “Wood Wall Bracing Design” for Korean engineers, architects and builders. The workshop was designed to introduce various lateral force resisting system options for wood frame structures including prescriptive wood frame braced wall provisions for small scale wood structures, engineered shear walls and high performance Midply shear wall systems.
As the code requirements for seismic design have been extended to and strengthened for all types of buildings and construction methods due to recent earthquakes in South Korea, there have been a growing demand for learning opportunities on this topic. International collaboration has made this workshop possible. Three expert speakers presented: David Joo from Canada (PE, President of King Engineering), Sang-sik Jang from Korea (Professor of Chungnam National University) and Damon Ho from the U.S. (PE, Engineering Supervisor with Simpson Strong-Tie).
The workshop was conducted on October 20th in conjunction with CWK’s participation in the 2018 Korea Architecture Fair and Festival 2018 which was organized by the Korea Institute of Registered Architects (KIRA). It was attended by more than 160 professionals and recognized by the KIRA as 1 hour credit continuing education for registered architects.
