Wooden Home Association Specifies Canadian Structural Lumber
The Japan Wooden Home Builders Association (WHA) published a wooden post & beam building method standard in February. This 445 pages aims to standardize the most recommendable design method for the member companies. In the chapter dealing with lumber, the standard describes what kind of structural lumber the member companies should use. As an example of imported lumber, the manual only mentions Canadian dimension lumber graded to NLGA rules and JPS-1 Canada Tsuga. The Wooden Home Association is the most influential organization especially in the post and beam sector industries. It is one of the public profit organizations under the supervision of Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT). A total of 514 companies are members of the Association as builders, design offices, building material suppliers and industry associations. COFI has been a technical committee member in the association for more than 10 years and has been contributing to the publishing of this standard as one of its editorial committee members.
