The Russians are Coming
A large delegation from Russia’s Association of Wood Housing toured China on a fact-finding mission in May. The delegation was led by Director General Chernykh Alexandr Grigorievitch from St Petersburg.
Canada Wood was not able to grant the association’s request for a tour of a demonstration project and a briefing. The group was hoping to receive an update on the market for wood frame homes in China. They’re other objective was to learn about the progress of the timber frame building codes and they requested information on technical transfer projects such as builder training courses.
The Russian group had several meetings and site visits arranged including meetings with the Shanghai University engineering department and another to a design institute. It is not clear if they have any immediate plans to promote their products in China.
According to their website: (www.NPADD.ru), Russia’s Association of Wood Housing was founded in 2003. Their membership consists of manufacturers of materials and components for wooden houses, manufactures and suppliers of equipment, technologies and program software for wooden construction.
