Certified Energy Advisor (CEA) and EEEA consultant Jack Zhou has revisited Korea to conduct the advanced workshop on HOT2000 Energy Simulation in Seoul for three days from February 25 to 27 for the second time.

Unlike the first 2-day workshop, which used simplified house plan for training and simple use specified values for inputs, this 3-day workshop used a house plan from an actual project aiming for Super-E® House certification currently under construction in Korea. The new house plan added a lot more complexities in taking-offs but demonstrated real-world challenges you will face in simulations.

After readying input data from taking-off and some manual calculations for RSI values of foundation, wall and roof assemblies, two more options, dropdown menu, and code library, were demonstrated in addition to user-specified inputs. Also, several HOT2000 files were created for the reference house and the refined Net-Zero energy house.

To the students, the key takeaways of this 3-day course was learning to know how to optimize the design to meet the Net-Zero standard by changing small details such as air tightness, window performance, insulation and others that will affect the total energy consumptions in a few clicks of the mouse.
