Beijing hosts first China-Canada Economic and Financial Strategic Dialogue (EFSD)
The first China-Canada Economic and Financial Strategic Dialogue (EFSD) was held in Beijing on November 12. China’s State Councilor Wang Yong co-chaired the dialogue with Canada’s Finance Minister William Morneau and Minister of International Trade Diversification James Carr.
The Sino-Canadian Eco-District Demonstration Project in Tianjin was highlighted in the Dialogue.
“Both countries agreed to continue the application of sustainable technologies and products that will reduce carbon emissions to achieve sustainable development and will address climate change for cities and buildings within other demonstration projects in eco-cities (districts) across China.” – Outcome 34, Sector III – Enhancing Cooperation in Priority Sectors.
The Sino-Canadian Ecological Demonstration Area is a community-wide development project launched in 2012 by the China National Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development (MOHURD) and Natural Resources Canada (NRCan). It has been the largest light wood-frame community in China making up a total floor area of 50,000 m2. CW China has been providing technical support to the project since 2016. The first phase of 100 unit North American style townhouses was completed in September 2018. With support of CW China, energy-efficiency standard Super E ®, building envelop with prefabricated wood infill-wall and mid-rise wood structure are being introduced into the eco-district.
