The 14th KWCA-WUC Architect-Inspector Training sponsored by Canada Wood Korea began on April 1. This training is given each year to professionals including builders, architects and construction company workers to foster knowledgeable wood frame construction inspectors. This year’s training is scheduled from April 1 to August 19.

While most participants in the past were builders, architects gained interest in this over the past few years. This year is the 14th session and 15 of 30 participants are either the CEOs or architects of architectural engineering firms. Since inspection is a field for architects, the gradual increase of architects in the training is a positive change.

The 15 architects participating in this training program are comprised of nine CEO architects of architectural engineering firms mainly engaged in designing WFC and six architects who designed WFC only once or have just begun WFC design. They decided to participate in the training after they felt the need for more systematic and professional training as the demand for WFC has increased.

There are increasing cases of architects winning popularity in Korea mainly for designing WFC and of receiving various architectural awards with their WFC designs after completing this training. For instance, Mr. Hyun Wook Lee, CEO of Kwangjang Architects and known as the ‘Peanut House’ inventor, became a celebrity after shooting a TV commercial for Samsung Group in Korea. Mr. Seung Hee Kang, CEO of Nova Architects who won Korea Wood Design Awards every year, has become a judge for the Korea Wood Design Awards since last year. These architects became leaders of WFC in Korea after receiving this training.
