In April, we informed you that the “Optimal house”, light wood frame single family house with the MP Wall system was completed for the first time in Korea at Maple Village in Yongin. A total of twenty single family wood frame houses are to be built by 2020 in Maple Village. Today, I am going to share with you the news that the second wood frame house, which applies the MP Wall system, has just started construction in Maple Village. It was designed with a completely different layout from the first house and the MP Wall structure was confirmed through new structural calculation.

Let’s go over the MP wall again. It is one of the shear walls of the light frame wood structure indicated in the Wood Structure Section of the Korean Building Code for Small-Scale Buildings. The biggest advantage of the Midply Shearwall or MP Wall is that its horizontal load resistance performance is twice that of ordinary light frame shear wall. In other words, the wall in shorter length can satisfy the structural performance to increase flexibility in design. Another advantage is that it can be manufactured on site without special equipment or technology.

The company’s official who is in charge of the Maple Village complex’s design and construction said, “Considering these benefits, we decided to apply the MP Wall system to all other wood frame houses in the Maple Village”, highly rating the structural performance of the MP Wall.
