It was reported by a Korean news agency that South Korean President Lee Myung-bak and Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper agreed to resume FTA talks within the year during the bilateral meeting held on the sidelines of the G20 summit in Los Cabos, Mexico. Canada and South Korea had initially launched FTA talks in 2005, but negotiations were shelved in March 2008 due to trade disputes regarding Korea’s import ban on Canadian beef. The Canadian wood industry welcomes the Canada-Korea FTA talks and hopes they will lead to favorable tariffs on Canadian wood products.
