Canada Wood members APA-The Engineered Wood Association and COFI (Coast) recently exhibited their members products at the 2-day (June 16-17) Non-Residential Wood Construction Fair held at the Tokyo Big Sight. This was the 3rd year to participate in this show and with many more exhibitors and visitor numbers up over 45% vs last year, it felt almost like a pre-COVID trade show.

There was a real buzz in the air, with visitors excited to be out and meeting face to face to exchange information and learn about building solutions for wooden non-residential projects. Exhibiting at this show also provided us a chance to exchange market intelligence with other exhibitors, such as wood product fabricators, construction companies and architects/engineers. Through these discussions we discovered that the company involved in producing the NLT panels for a project at Tokyo University of the Arts (see May 2022; Media Tour Held for SPF NLT Demonstration Project) received an NLT quote request from a firm that had read about the project in the Japanese media. Further, we found out that several exhibitors are involved in a 5-storey wooden project near Yokohama that will start construction this fall. The building will house retail shops and will feature Midply Walls produced with Canadian SPF and OSB to increase the seismic resistance of the structure. After the show we felt very positive that there is increased interest in the wooden non-residential market, and this will lead to growing sales in this segment for our members.
