China Green Building Experts Visit Canada
A delegation of fourteen green building experts led by the Vice Director of the China Green Building Council Zhang Hua, visited Canada June 1-6. Zhang Hua spoke at the Canada Green Building Council’s national conference and expo in Toronto. His presentation covered the current green development situation in China as well as the newest development trend in China of eco-communities. Zhang also covered urban waste management, green transportation and carbon emission management.
Thanks to NRCAN, the delegation was able to visit Waterfront Toronto’s Head Office and learn from Waterfront Toronto’s Director of Government Relations Ed Chalupka about Toronto’s very interesting development and transformation of its industrial sites to vibrant green residential and commercial communities. Toronto is also busy gearing up for the 2015 Pan-Am games and the delegation visited the site to learn how the Pan-Am projects are achieving LEED certification.
Other visits in Toronto included Ryerson University, the University of Toronto as well as meetings with private companies specializing in green technology such as solar systems including solar duct systems and connections to mechanical equipment.
In Vancouver, the Chinese delegation visited several sites over two days including FP Innovations, UBC’s Centre for Interactive Research on Sustainability and Earth Science Building, Richmond Oval, Rivergreen Condo project, SFU’s UniverCity Sustainable project, North Vancouver’s newly constructed addition at City Hall, VanDusen Visitor’s Centre, and Mountain Equipment Coop Head Office construction site.
