One of the functions of Canada Wood in China is to provide quality support during the construction phase of wood projects. The CW Quality Support team in Shanghai and Beijing was previously the only third-party service attempting to support wood construction quality across this large country. Increasingly, experienced wood construction experts have begun to offer their services as private contractors.

This is encouraging because the demand for these experts indicates more developers realize the importance of quality construction. It also establishes an effective approach to QS. Construction management requires a full-time, on-site attention. Canada Wood, on the other hand, is set up to provide recommendations, selective guidance, and training, but does not have the resources to leave construction experts on private job sites through the entire construction process.

experts-in-china1DV and AmeriCan Structures from Quebec, General Contractor of a project in Hebei provides a good example of this new approach to QS.

This project is located in Zhangjiakou city, which combined with Beijing, is bidding to be the host city of 2022 Winter Olympics. DV hired Stan and Dennis who are former FII construction experts, as their construction supervisors.

The project consists of 7 office buildings with each size of 1500m2, 4 of which have been completed and 1 building has been sold out to a cloud computation company. This project would become by far the largest wood frame office building complex in China.

One of the key challenges for this project is the fire inspection. Stan called Canada Wood for technical advice on the fire code. Canada Wood staff is working with the local fire bureau to help this project earn approval. This is a complicated project but it is also an example of a positive collaboration between the developer, the construction managers, the material supplier and Canada Wood.
