Evolution of Wood Use in Canadian Non-residential Construction

The main objective of this study was to provide a current understanding of wood use in non-residential construction in Canada as well as a method for future benchmarking on a set of various measures. With the aim of characterizing wood use in non-residential construction in Canada, surveys were conducted among structural engineers, structural components manufacturers, and glulam manufacturers. Through various estimates of the market share for wood, the survey of structural engineers provided a basis for monitoring wood use over time.

This project included an assessment of the construction industry in Europe and trade flow analysis for wood products with the aim of understanding the current state of the Western European market for Canadian wood products, identifying the best opportunities, and proposing paths for successful market development.

Market Development Strategy for the Value-Added Wood Industry

The overall objective of the strategy developed by MNP LLP was to help establish the value-added wood industry priorities for future investments in north American/offshore markets development and promotions. The report contains a description of the criteria and rating scale that were used to identify the sectors to be included, an overview industry’s key success and risk factors, and an analysis that discusses economic indicators and market conditions in priority and other markets. The conclusion outlines the key findings and recommendations, as well as high-level strategy maps for each of the recommended strategies.
