Guangdong Wood Structure Branch Association Launched at Canada Wood’s Seminar in Foshan
On June 18, 2020, Canada Wood China organized an event in partnership with the Guangdong Provincial Construction Sustainability and Prefabricated Industry Association to celebrate the launch of the Guangdong Wood Structure Branch Association. Founded on January 10th, 2020, this new branch of the provincial association serves as a milestone, where it will have an important role working between local wood industry companies and government agencies to advance the development and promotion of wood construction in Guangdong as a solution to achieve energy efficiency and green development targets. Canada Wood China has been engaged with the Guangdong Provincial Construction Association since 2018, co-organizing events across the Pearl Delta Region in cities like Guangzhou, Shenzhen and Foshan to foster the awareness and interest of modern wood frame construction as well as wood in manufacturing.
The company that will serve as the Chair of the founding board members of the new Guangdong Wood Structure Branch Association is Foshan Yiyuan, a long-term partner of Canada Wood’s wood product trial program. Foshan Yiyuan was invited to experiment with the Canadian SPF and Hemlock in its furniture manufacturing business and successfully launched a series of new product lines made from Canadian species. Influenced by Canada Wood, the company has recently extended its business to wood construction and is involved in the planning of a 7-storey museum project of a wood-concrete hybrid structure converted from the original concrete design.

Canada Wood gave a presentation on the benefits of modern wood prefabrication such as assembly, energy efficiency, waste reduction, and cost control. The team introduced case studies that also showcased the aesthetic possibilities with modern designs.
The Pearl Delta Region is the southern pillar of the 3 major Chinese coastal growth areas including Guangdong province, one of the major furniture manufacturing bases in China. As one of the most open and economically vibrant regions in China, the region accounts for 21% of China’s population and about 40% of its GDP. As one of our key targeted markets for wood construction and wood furniture manufacturing, our joint promotional and marketing efforts with local MOHURD departments and construction associations has established a solid network in the region and led to growing market awareness and potential business opportunities for Canadian species.
