Hon. Joe Oliver, Minister of NRCan, Holds Roundtable Discussion in Seoul
On the morning of October
14, 2013, the Honorable Joe Oliver, Canada’s Minister of Natural Resources,
held a roundtable discussion with Korean wood construction industry’s
representatives consisting of the Korea Wood Construction Association,
builders, distributors and importers, architects, components manufactures,
academia and media, to kick off his mission in Korea. During the meeting the Minister Oliver expressed his concerns over the Korea lumber quality mark and standard for wood treating and listened to various opinions expressed by industry
participants ranging from cultural exchange, promoting wood culture, green building, training, wood construction market growth potential as well as the measures for the two major issues expressed by the minister.
After the minister’s departure, the discussion continued in order to take advantage of the gathering of major stakeholders and the presence of the Canadian Embassy trade commissioners to further discuss the issues affecting the Canadian wood products import to Korea in detail and to promote the use of wood and to forge collaboration among various participants and organizations to address the issues.
