Largest Non-Res Project Builder Simulates Midply

Exif_JPEG_PICTUREJapan’s largest wooden building will be achieved by using a Canadian technology in Adachi Ward, Tokyo. This 9,023 m2 wooden elderly care facility with 5 storeys is the first case where a Japanese designer adopted a high seismic-resistance shear wall, the Midply Wall System, a new seismic-resistant element developed by FPInnovation and UBC. As reported in this blog on November 4th, 2014, this project is the winner of MLIT*’s innovative wooden building design competition. Recently, a subcontractor for the facility built a small scale Midply model in Chiba prefecture to identify the unpredictable challenges in the fabrication and site works accommodating this new wall system. As participants to the site work simulation exchanged views on seeking efficiencies of Midply installations, more than 30 recommendations were developed by design and fabrication experts. This simulation exercise was entirely sponsored by local panel fabricators aiming to commercialize Mid-Ply in Japan.
