Japan 2×4 Home Builder Association reports the accumulative total for fireproof approval applications in Japan is nearing 2,000 units (1,970 approvals to date January 31, 2013) and that the accumulative total of these applications for the elderly care market segment now stands at 74 units. In fact, fireproof approval applications for elderly care facilities nearly doubled in 2012, reaching a record 23 projects (January-December) compared with 16 project applications in 2011, a sizable 43.8% increase for the same period compared to previous year. In addition to this, in January 2013, the association also reported that it received two more fireproof approval applications for large social welfare related projects to be built in Osaka and Kanagawa Prefectures.
