Certain media have criticized the full-scale fire test that took place February 22nd on a school building as this testing initiative resulted in collapse of the entire structure. Industry has been concerned that the negative media reports on the test may adversely impact the wood-is-good concept.  On May 24th at the reception of Wooden Home Association AGM, Toshiyuki Inoue, Vice-Minister, Minister’s Secretariat tried to address these concerns in his opening remarks.  In his speech, he emphasized that that the test specimen was not fully equipped with fire resistive measures intentionally for the purpose of observing the flame spreading in the absence of full fire protection measures. A second test which includes fire resistive designs is planned for 2013.
