Report On Sound Insulation Tests in Wood Construction Released in China
A research report on acoustic performances of twenty-nine wooden wall and floor assemblies was released in May. The results will help property developers, designers and builders to choose the right wood component in real life wood constructions according to their sound insulation capabilities.
The report was jointly released by Canada Wood China (CW China) and China Academy of Building Research (CABR), the largest and most diverse research institution in China’s building industry.
Commissioned by CW China, CABR conducted twenty-nine sound insulation tests, including 15 partitions (both interior walls and party walls), five exterior walls and nine floor components. Testing procedures, witnesses, results, conclusions and findings were recorded in the report.
The research helped verify testing method and evaluation of ASTM standard that adopted by the National Building Code of Canada (NBCC) vs. ISO standard that adopted by Chinese acoustic standard. In addition, the research found out the factors that impact sound performance of WFC assemblies in order to help improve assembly design. Laboratory testing of typical wood wall/floor assemblies helped determine whether they meet with Chinese standard. The report is expected to serve as a good reference for high-rise wooden demo projects in China.
