The Japan Wood Truss Council (JWTC) held its 11th annual general meeting on June 14th at the Canadian Embassy in Tokyo with twenty-nine persons attending. The council is made up of 15 regular and 5 associate member companies that have direct or indirect ties with the truss market in Japan. Combined, member companies own and operate 21 truss manufacturing plants throughout the country, producing and supplying over 90 percent of the trusses manufactured and sold here in Japan. At the annual general meeting, it was reported that truss production was up 20 percent for use in the 2×4 market segment and 31 percent for non-2×4 (P&B and Pre-Fab) market segment, compared to the previous year. Unfortunately though truss production slipped slightly by 9 percent for use in the non-residential (livestock, warehouse, retail) market, but the big news was that truss production for use in “other” non-residential (social welfare, etc.) market segment category was up a whopping 48 percent when compared to the previous year.
