XV World Forestry Congress Concludes in Seoul

The 15th XV World Forestry Congress (WFC), hosted by the Government of the Republic of Korea has recently concluded in Seoul on 6 May 2022. The gathering, attended by a global audience comprising of academics, industry leaders and politicians was a global platform with the vision of seamless collaboration toward the betterment of forestry solutions and environmental policies. The event was co-organized by the Korea Forest Service (KFS) and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and saw over 10,000 participants from 141 countries joining the congress in person.

Under the theme ‘Building a Green, Healthy, and Resilient Future with Forests,’ the Congress’ program consists of a five-day schedule of various events and exhibitions. Canada Wood Korea hosted a booth to showcase how Canada’s leading sustainable forest management practices are shaping the relationships between construction and carbon mitigation. 

Derek Nighbor, President & CEO of Forest Product Association of Canada (FPAC) visited Korea to participate in the XV WFC and met CWK Country Director Tai Jeong at the CWK booth to review Canada Wood activities in Korea.

Congratulations to Mr. Nighbor for being elected by his international colleagues to serve as the liaison between the 18 ICFPA (International Council of Forest and Paper Associations) member organizations and the United Nations Forum on Forests (UNFF) to facilitate the advancement of forestry solutions and policy dialogues around the world. “My goal is to make a difference by bringing Canadian innovation, experience, and know-how to the global policy table” said Mr. Nighbor.
