Canada Wood Japan – Upcoming Promotional Activities

Canada Wood Japan / APA representative

As part of our efforts to expand demand for Canadian lumber and structural panel products in Japan’s non-residential wood construction market, Canada Wood/COFI will exhibit at the Nikkei Architecture and Construction Materials Show from March 4–7. During the event, we will engage general contractors, architects, and builders, highlighting how sustainable Canadian wood products contribute to highly seismically resistant non-residential structures.

Our goal is to increase awareness of the potential for large-scale wooden non-residential and commercial buildings by showcasing successful, innovative wood projects in Japan. Our booth, located within the BC Wood Canada Pavilion, will feature visual media promotions demonstrating wood structural assemblies such as trusses, platform frame construction, the Midply Wall System, and Nail Laminated Timber (NLT)—all manufactured with Canadian SPF and Hem-Fir lumber, as well as OSB structural panels. Additionally, a Midply Wall display and an NLT table will allow visitors to see and interact with these assemblies firsthand.

We will also provide up-to-date information on Canadian wood product specifications and sustainable forest management, catering to Japanese companies involved in the expanding wooden non-residential construction market. If you are in Japan during the first week of March, we encourage you to visit our booth!

March Workshops on Coastal BC Species

In addition to the trade show, we are organizing two workshops to highlight the benefits of Coastal BC species, particularly Hem-Fir lumber:

  • Treated Hem-Fir Sill Plates for Long-Lasting Wooden Buildings – This session, held in partnership with a Japanese treating company, will promote the advantages of treated Canadian Hem-Fir sill plates, including strength, availability, cost performance, and a long history of use in Japan.
  • Hem-Fir Lumber Applications in New Homes & Renovations – Conducted in collaboration with a large pre-cut company and a major retailer serving professional home builders, this workshop will emphasize the benefits of BC Coastal Hem-Fir lumber in new home construction, DIY projects, and renovations.

We look forward to engaging with industry professionals at these events and demonstrating how Canadian wood products and advanced building systems can support the construction of strong, durable wooden structures in Japan.
