Showcasing Canadian Wood Innovation at Japan’s Premier Construction Exhibition

This week (March 4-7), Canada Wood/COFI is exhibiting at the Nikkei Architecture and Construction Materials Show in Tokyo. As part of our strategy to grow demand for Canadian lumber and structural panel products in Japan’s non-residential wood construction sector, this event provides an excellent platform to showcase innovation and sustainability in wood building systems.
Our booth, located in the BC Wood Canada Pavilion, features a multimedia display highlighting key structural assemblies using Canadian wood, including the Midply Wall System and Nail Laminated Timber (NLT) in both Japanese and Canadian projects. Attendees can explore a real NLT table built by a leading 2×4 panel manufacturer and housing company, as well as a Midply Wall mockup, offering a hands-on look at these advanced construction solutions.
One of the standout attractions has been a striking 3-meter-wide photo display of Japan’s first large-scale demonstration project incorporating NLT. This visually impactful showcase has sparked great interest among visitors eager to see how these innovative materials are being applied in real-world construction.
Additionally, our exhibit features a range of Canadian-engineered wood products, including structural and appearance-grade OSB, newly certified LSL products for the Japanese market, and Douglas Fir glulam beams produced with Canadian lamina—all manufactured by COFI members. Beyond product displays, we are also engaging with industry professionals on the benefits of sustainable forest management, reinforcing Canada’s commitment to responsible and environmentally friendly wood construction solutions.
By participating in this leading industry event, Canada Wood continues to strengthen our presence in Japan’s evolving non-residential construction market, fostering new partnerships and advancing the role of Canadian wood in innovative and sustainable building practices.
