Book launch of the Wood Building Prefabrication Guide
On July 1st, 2022, the Technical Services team of Canada Wood China (CW China), in collaboration with wood construction expert Dr. Yu Haitao, officially launched the “Wood Building Prefabrication Guide”, making it free to download from the Canada Wood Online training platform. In the context of carbon peak and carbon neutrality targets, wood construction technologies represent a significant opportunity for low-carbon building solutions. Wood is a renewable resource and an ideal material for prefabrication, as it is fast to construct and install. With prefabrication recognized as a method to reduce waste and improve efficiency in construction, increasing prefabrication rate requirements are being set by the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development (MOHURD) in China, and wood building prefabrication has been accepted as an important solution to meeting those requirements.
This new guide contains 10 chapters and 5 appendices. It will be a useful technical guide for builders, educators, students, management and technical staff of prefabricated wood structure manufacturing enterprises, and relevant government officials and policy makers. The main purpose of this guide is to provide a comprehensive understanding of wood building prefabrication, the production process and technical system of prefabricated components. The information should prove valuable to construction companies adopting prefabrication solutions, or for companies interested in investing into the production of prefabricated wood structures.
To promote the official launch of the Wood Building Prefabrication Guide, as well as on our official WeChat account, CW China advertised the webinar with “precast.com.cn”, which was founded in 2011 and has become one of the largest online platforms for China’s prefabricated building industry. Mr. Yu Haitao, Director of Research and Development, Landmark Group of Companies, was invited to give two online training sessions that provide an introduction to the highlights of each chapter of the Wood Building Prefabrication Guide.
The first webinar, held on July 1, introduced the background of industrialization and prefabricated construction from a macro perspective, provides a comprehensive discussion on the main structural forms of modern wood construction, prefabricated systems and technologies, as well as providing some insights on the range of available prefabricated systems. The second webinar, scheduled for July 15, will cover the prefabrication of light wood frame wall and floor panels, including the technical aspects of the design, production, transportation, and on-site installation of the components. The lesson will also cover aspects such as logistics, human resources, and business management practices with examples from Canada.
Through the lecture series, CW China was able to increase awareness of wood usage, broaden the market acceptance of wood prefabrication in the construction sector, and announce the launch of the Wood Building Prefabrication Guide to a broad network of industry professionals.
