Canada Wood Japan is pleased to release our case study video on Japan’s first large scale NLT (Nail Laminated Timber) project. The Tokyo University of the Arts International Exchange Center is an innovative 5-storey hybrid steel and wood frame building which adopts the commercial use of Canadian SPF dimension lumber in an NLT mass timber floor system. Through incorporation of sustainable wooden structural assemblies, this project achieved a carbon emissions reduction of 27.6% over traditional steel framed structures. The project also served to confirm the commercial feasibility of Canadian SPF NLT floor systems for use in Japan’s mass timber market. Canada Wood expresses our thanks to Maeda Corporation with whom we partnered on this on this demonstration project. For more details, please click here for the case study video.
