Two new design tools were made available to assist Korean structural engineers in designing wood structural and Midply shearwall systems to comply with the prescriptive requirement of Small Scaled Building Code-Timber Structure building code.

The first tool is a Design Guide Booklet published to help structural engineers understand necessary considerations with designing wood structural system. The booklet is the result of a collaboration among Canada Wood Korea(CWK), Canadian and Korean structural engineers, David Joo of Haustech and Gak Gyung Kim of Doohang Structures & Consultants Co., Ltd.

The second is an MS EXCEL based Wall Bracing Calculator developed to simplify the design of residential structures that comply with the prescriptive requirement of Small Scaled Building Code-Timber Structure building code. The tool was developed jointly by Canada Wood Korea, The Korea Wood Committee’s Prof. Sang Sik Jang and Chair of KS Standards Committee’s Prof. Sae Chang Oh. The calculator is free to use and comes with a user guide for easy reference.

“We hope that the use of this design guide booklet and spreadsheet wall bracing calculator will help architects, engineers and designers to simplify their work and gain significant time and cost savings.” Said Tai Jeong, Canada Wood Korea Country director.
