After a slow start,  Japan’s COVID-19 vaccination program picked up speed over the summer and early fall and, with cases dropping dramatically, the 6 months plus state of emergency in Japan was finally lifted on October 1. The timing couldn’t have been better for Canada Wood to attend and exhibit at the Woodrise 2021 Kyoto conference on October 15-17. Together with Natural Resources Canada, FPInnovations and the Japan 2×4 Home Builders Association, we exhibited booths displaying sustainable and innovative wooden building solutions for mid-rise structures, including NLT and Mid-Ply Walls. Although there were no overseas visitors, over 800 people attended both online and in-person. Most booth visitors represented general contractors interested in learning about the wood mid-rise situation in Canada and further developing their mid-rise construction businesses.

Besides providing a much needed opportunity to finally get out of Tokyo to meet people in person, this show provided Canada Wood with an excellent opportunity to meet many leading companies involved in the wooden mid-rise construction industry and promote how our members’ products and Canadian systems can offer solutions for them.
