The 2024 World Forestry Industry Conference, held in Nanning, Guangxi, on November 23, brought together leaders from around the world to explore innovative forestry solutions. This annual event, co-hosted by the National Forestry and Grassland Administration (NFGA) and the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region Government, aims to leverage Guangxi’s resources and leadership in forestry to foster global partnerships and drive innovative solutions in the industry. FII China coordinated the Canadian delegation, comprising Mr. Behzad Babakhani, Consul General of the Consulate General of Canada in Guangzhou, Ms. Cathy Yao from the BC Trade Office, along with representatives from the Alberta Trade Office, FII China, and Canada Wood China, ensuring a robust Canadian presence at the conference.
Canadian delegation’s strategic participation
The Canadian delegation enjoyed VIP access to key events, including a bilateral meeting with NFGA officials and a speaking opportunity for the Consul General during the main forum. These opportunities allowed Canada to directly engage with decision-makers from both NFGA and Guangxi, strengthening relationships with local stakeholders and reinforcing Canada’s leadership in forestry innovation.
An exhibition booth showcasing Canadian expertise and innovations
One of the highlights of the conference was the Canadian exhibition booth. The 52-square-meter booth showcased Canadian innovations in mass timber and its sustainable forestry practices. In collaboration with Canada Wood and leading Canadian lumber companies such as Western Forest Products (WFP), Interex, and Canfor, the booth attracted significant attention from industry leaders and government figures.
Participation in the sub-forum: advancing sustainable wood and bamboo innovation
Another key moment of the conference was the International Wood and Bamboo Structure Building Industry Chain Forum, where FII China delivered a keynote address. Canada Wood China shared insights on the latest advancements in wood construction technologies, sparking dynamic discussions on how sustainable wood solutions can help address global climate change and promote rural revitalization.
