A three-party Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for strategic cooperation was signed on April 1, 2020, between Canada Wood China (CW China), Wuxi Taihu New City Development Group Co., LTD and Wuxi Construction & Development Investment Co., LTD to collaborate on the promotion of wood construction to be included in the development of the Wuxi Taihu New City. In consideration of social distancing policies implemented to prevent the spread of COVID-19, the signing ceremony was organized online.

In recent years, with the support of national policies, the green building industry has experienced rapid development. China completed the revision of the national standard “Code for design of Timber Structures” and “Technical standard for partitions with timber framework” in 2016. The revision and implementation of these standards have supported growth in the application of wood structures, as wood-frame constructions ideal solutions for ultra-low energy developments and sustainability measures. The benefit of promoting these wood-based solutions was a good fit for the environmental standards of the Wuxi Taihu New City project.

Wuxi is a city of 6.57 million people located in eastern China, within the province of Jiangsu. The Taihu Basin, the region surrounding Wuxi, is a section of the Yangtze River Delta with over 50 million people and one of the most developed regions of China. Through the three-party cooperation, we will integrate the experience and resources of the three parties to build a platform for innovation and development. Focusing on green building materials and wood structure products, CW China will cooperate with the other two parties on studying and developing localized prefabricated building technical standard systems and process methods. We will promote the application of modern wood-frame building in the development of Taihu New City, and research new techniques of wood frame construction and low-carbon, environmentally-friendly building materials and techniques.

After signing the MOU, the three parties will begin work together on the INSPUR big data industrial park project which include a multi-story wood structure office building.
