Nail Plate Trusses: Expanding SPF Use in Post & Beam Buildings
Japan office staff recently completed a new multimedia video clip last month with the cooperation of Japan Wood Truss Council (JWTC) members – highlighting how roof nail plate trusses can be efficiently used to build a comfortable office building in wood and expand Canadian SPF dimension lumber usage in Post & Beam (P&B) market segment in Japan. Deguchigumi Co., Ltd., the owner of the building, assisted our organization and agreed to help us highlight its new company’s office building in Hidaka, Hokkaido in a project case study video. The building is a 2-storey P&B wood structure with a floor area of 680 sqm. In order to create a large open office space for its employees on the 2nd floor, the design and construction company, ARCHIVISION21 Inc., went with 40 roof nail plate trusses that were customed designed and supplied by Iwakura Co., Ltd. The trusses were manufactured with Canadian SPF dimension lumber and transported in two sections – 10.8 meters and 3.6 meters lengths – which were used to construct a 14.m wide single-pitched roof in one day. As you can see from the images below the result being a very stylish, warm building and office space for employees to enjoy while working. Not only that, but by using a sustainable building material, wood the company was able to adhere to the company’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) it has set out.
Deguchi Gumi office project case study video clip is just over three and half minutes long and is based on an interview with Mr. Takanobu Nambu, Senior Managing Executive Officer, on why the company choose a wood building and the advantages and benefits of doing so.
