On October 6th Canada Wood Japan hosted Vancouver based architect Robert Salikan to deliver a presentation detailing his experience with midrise construction in British Columbia. The seminar was organized in collaboration with the Japan 2×4 Home Builders Association. The timely presentation drew strong interest, with a total of 92 architects and builders attending the presentation in person and online.

While wood frame midrise 4 to 6 storey construction has a share of over 85% of buildings in B.C., in Japan total wood frame midrise construction remains limited at present. But with recent code revisions, engineering advances and growing interest in low carbon solutions, Japanese 2×4 builders are keen to expand into the midrise segment. At the seminar Mr. Salikan shared project case studies and valuable lessons learned in designing midrise construction. The presentation was followed by a lively question and answer session. Canada Wood wishes to thank Robert Salikan for sharing his expertise and the Japan 2×4 Home Builders Association for their support in making this informative session possible.
