Canada Wood Welcomes B.C.’s Chief Forester to Japan

Between May 19th and May 21st, Canada Wood Japan had the pleasure of hosting Mr. Shane Berg, British Columbia’s Chief Forester and Assistant Deputy Minister. Our program included a visit with Japanese government officials with the Ministry of Agriculture, Forests and Fisheries; meetings with locally based Canadian forest products exporters and Japanese media; a visit to the Osaka Federation of All Wood Industries; a tour of the Tsuda Sangyo Co., Ltd. plant facilities and a keynote address with the Japan 2×4 Home Builders Association Osaka Chapter. The Chief Forester’s visit helped deepen Japanese stakeholder understanding of how climate change is impacting forests and what mitigation strategies British Columbia is taking to strengthen forest resiliency and ensure that long term forest sustainability objectives are met. The Chief Forester’s visit also helped underscore the importance of the Japanese market to B.C. government and industry stakeholders and helped support collective efforts of market diversification.
