The Japan Timber Engineering Society is a group comprised of people who are researchers, engineers and students.  Canada Wood Japan is an affiliated member.  The Society was established in 1981 with the mission of promoting research and technical development of wood, wooden materials and timber structures.  This year, the Society celebrates its 40th anniversary.  The secretariat of the Society is located at the University of Tokyo.  With the current number of members at 330, the Society holds the forum 3 times a year and publishes a bimonthly magazine “Journal of Timber Engineering” (JTE).  Canada Wood Japan Office wrote 5 articles to the JTE during the period from 2010 to 2020.  The JTE No. 150 is going to be a special issue for the 40th anniversary.  The JTE editorial committee requested Canada Wood write an article looking back at the timber engineering development for the past 10 years.  The No. 150 JTE featuring the Canada Wood article is going to be published in late June 2021.
