Smart House, a Korean wood home builder, signed a Memorandum of Understanding(MOU) with Canadian panelization fabricator AmeriCan Structure this February to jointly invest in the opening of a new panelization plant to meet the growing business demand for more affordable wood home products in South Korea. Its new Incheon factory is capable of prefabricating and delivering more than 200 units annually.

To explain the collaboration with AmeriCan Structure, Mr. Lee, CEO of Smart House said “It all starts at the factory, where the architectural drawings are sent to AmeriCan Structure to turn into shop drawings. Smart House Incheon factory precuts and assembles the structural components to ship to the job site for faster erection.”

This is an overhaul of the traditional way of importing panelized wood products from Canada, which usually takes longer time and costs more. The Incheon Plant sold its first 180m2 prefabricated abode to a local project called “The Stay Village.” However, Mr. Lee’s ambition goes above and beyond that.DCIM/100MEDIA/DJI_0664.JPG

“These days, the demand for large-scale wooden structures is also gradually emerging. There is also a growing demand for wooden structures in large resorts, libraries, and auditoriums with long spans and large open spaces. Our next step is to manufacture wood trusses in our factory for large span roofing applications.” Mr. Lee further said,

“Although there is an existing solid detached house market, we built the Incheon factory to prepare for the upcoming large-scale building market boom in Korea.” He further added.TwitterLinkedIn
